Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

SDG8 focuses on issues relating to economic growth, including national economic growth, diversification and innovation for economic productivity, achieving full and productive employment for all women and men, reducing the proportion of youth not in employment, and education and training, among other components. At Lynn University, these efforts manifest in a variety of forms, from ensuring students are prepared to join the workforce upon graduation to offering programs that focus on their professional development and growth.

Additionally, throughout the academic year, multiple career fairs are offered, providing students with access to a large number of recruiters from a variety of employers. Numerous services are provided to students by appointment, including career counseling, career and personality assessments, and resume reviews. Furthermore, students can register for mock interviews with employers that are conducted monthly on campus. Alumni shadowing opportunities are also available upon request.

Career prep curriculum

As part of the core curriculum at Lynn University, students engage in DJC250 – Career Preparation. Within the career preparation theme, there are two tracks. The first involves directly preparing students for post-graduation employment; the second prepares students to apply for, and enter, more advanced studies. Courses in the career preparation for the workplace may include, but are not limited to,  résumé and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, personality profile, work/business etiquette, and training on how to dress for success. Additionally, they may include site visits and guest speakers from the chosen career field. Courses in career preparation for post-baccalaureate education may include, but are not limited to, preparation for the GRE, MCAT, or LSAT exams; matching career goals and expectations to graduate programs; the importance of the application timeline; and CV, letter of introduction, and interviewing protocols.

Center Court Speaker Series

The Lynn University Sports Management Department in the College of Business and Management features the Center Court Speaker Series. The program invites sport professionals to campus to speak to students about their experiences in the field to prepare students for the realities of working in sports management. The program has been ongoing for the past decade and transitioned to a fully virtual setting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

By ensuring students are well-prepared for the workforce, Lynn University helps further target 8.6 of SDG8, which focuses on reducing the portion of youth not in employment, education, or training.
